Colonial Park Men's Club meeting notes.
Tuesday, July 19, 2011

We had an excellent pot luck meal which included Dr. Leal's wife's rum cake. It was all good. There was a good crowd.

Abbott started us with a prayer and then we ate.

Bill Detling did a nice devotional on giving. We need to be willing to give to others because God has given us so much.

Reverend Joe Piercy was our guest speaker. The topic was Methodist Polity. Polity is how we go about being the church. The Methodist mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and polity is how we fulfill that mission. Reverend Piercy shared some information concerning John Wesley and his ideas concerning discipleship, acts of devotion, acts of worship, works of mercy. He talked about deeds of compassion which he described as responding to need as it is given. In other words, we need to help others when we have the opportunity to do so. Should we try to decide if someone is worthy of our help? The answer is no! We are not worthy of what God has done for us...but he did it anyway. And then he mentioned deeds of justice which he described as asking questions like, why are people hungry, homeless, etc.

It is through the local church that we can do the things we are supposed to do.

Lastly, Reverend Piercy discussed the principle of conference saying the Methodist church is a conferencing body.

There was a little more but I seem to have misplaced the rest of my notes.
